Exciting Collaboration Begins with a Visit to UNIZKM in Albania

Dear colleagues,

On January 7th and 8th, 2025, our academic activities for the year began with a productive visit to the “Lady of Good Counsel University” (UNIZKM) in Tirana, Albania.

The Rector of UNIZKM, Prof. Leonardo Palombi, warmly welcomed our Director, Prof. Andrea Malizia, along with colleagues from the University of L’Aquila, Prof. Leila Fabiani and Dr. Stefano Greco. The meeting, which also included Prof. Ersilia Buonomo (University of Rome Tor Vergata) and Prof. Fabian Cenko (UNIZKM), focused on developing a cooperative project among the three universities. The initiative addresses key themes such as health, safety, security, and environmental challenges, with a particular emphasis on social, geopolitical, and vulnerable population issues. The visit concluded with a tour of UNIZKM’s stunning campus, state-of-the-art laboratories, and hospital facilities.

We were also honored to meet Prof. Guido Macchiarelli, the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at UNIZKM, who joined us for an engaging discussion and a delightful lunch.

During the visit, Prof. Andrea Malizia had the opportunity to discuss future collaboration projects on safety and security with Prof. Leonardo Palombi and Prof. Tritan Shehu—a distinguished figure in Albanian history, having served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1996–1997), Minister of Health (1993–1996), and Vice Prime Minister (1996–1997).

This visit marks the beginning of an exciting and promising partnership. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our colleagues at UNIZKM and Prof. Leonardo Palombi for their hospitality and commitment to fostering collaboration.

Stay tuned as we embark on this new journey of academic cooperation!
